We are pleased to announce the
exhibition:
‘Mystic Point’
Paintings by Yury and
Tania Darashkevich.
April 9-25, 2010
Opening reception with the artists
Friday April 9, 7-10 pm
‘Mystic Point’ will feature the sublime
landscape paintings of Yury Darashkevich together with some of his
figurative works and delicate still life paintings by his wife
Tania. Of the figurative paintings, the award winning ‘Talking to
the Wind’ will be included in the exhibition. It won Best in Show at
‘Integration’, an exhibition by the Society of Canadian Artists at
the Art Gallery of Hamilton, November 2009- January 2010.
The latest landscape paintings reflect the
romantic tradition but with a distinctly modern touch in the brush
work and the media used. Yury paints primarily on panel with acrylic
paint and resin finishing sometimes layering the two to achieve an
other- worldly effect that pulls the viewer towards a mysterious
space; a space that appears both untouched by civilization and
connected to the modern world.
Tania’s still life paintings are both
realistic and playful. Enamel teacups and fruit in a careful
balancing act, line up on light filled shelves.
“My works are about visual perception and the
ways in which the face or body or sometimes even a simple cup
responds to the color, line, texture or pattern. The "Thing" or
"Subject" by itself, surrounded by "Great Nothing", is my
excitement. I try to establish a very private dialog between the
viewer and the subject matter of my painting. It is a simple and
sincere conversation without any unnecessary details.
